The maximum confirmed length of a snake is 5.6 meters (18 ft), but most do not exceed 3.6 meters (12 ft). The king cobra is the only member of its genus. It is classified as part of the family Elapidae, the cobra family. Hamadryad, an alternative common name for the snake, is a Greek word meaning 'wood nymph.'"
