Info from Licensor: "The mighty Rangitata River after extreme rainfall in a short time frame caused the river to rise rapidly to around 2280m3/sec. Normally it flows at below 100m3/sec. This broke out flooding over roads, houses and farmland. The south island was brought to a standstill with both Rangitata river bridges closed due to floods, the main trunk railway line was washed out also. A pylon was washed out crossing the riverbed which dragged down several others interrupting power supplies."
