1000's of Bright Red Crabs On Newport Beach - Balboa Peninsula, Orange County, California

Occurred on May 13, 2016 / Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, USA Info From Licensor: "My wife and I took our dog to the beach near our home for an early morning walk. We saw thousands of mostly alive red crabs (pelagic crabs, tuna crabs or "langostilla") on the sand. If we flicked a bit of sand on the piles, we could see them move around. This took place near "The Wedge" and past Balboa Pier on Peninsula Point at the end of the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, Orange County, California. We heard that the El Nino currents brought these crabs up from Mexico and Central America to Southern California." - Paul Bettini
